Luckily, Newcastle certainly does disappoint in terms of vibrance! If you want to be slap bang in the heart of the action, Newcastle city centre accommodation is for you. Not only is it closer to the university campuses, but it’s also in the vibrant bright lights of the city centre with the clubs, bars, pubs, restaurants and much more. You’ll have a host of bars, clubs and restaurants right on your doorstep, so you won’t have to fork out on expensive taxi fares at the end of the night. What’s more, the shopping is great, with easy access to intu Eldon Square and Northumberland Street if you fancy a spot of retail therapy. As the heart of the North East, Newcastle city centre is also served by excellent transport links, including regular buses and metro services across the region, and of course Newcastle Central Station if you need to catch a train home for the weekend!

Student Houses Popular Living Areas

If the vibrant city centre doesn’t sound like your thing then do not fear, it doesn’t stop there! Newcastle has a whole host of other student houses in popular living areas to offer. Here are some of our other top choices…

#1 Jesmond

Jesmond is without a doubt the place to be when it comes to student accommodation in Newcastle. The area is only 10-20 minutes walk to the city centre and university campuses and has great transport links including Jesmond Metro and Haymarket Bus Station. At the epicentre of this student hub is Acorn Road and Brentwood Avenue which have a rich selection of amenities including local shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and cafés. Around the corner is the infamous Osbourne Road which is a student favorite for its bar culture. The area is stylish and upmarket and has a diverse mix of student and non-student inhabitants. If you are looking to rent a student property Jesmond can carry one of the more hefty price tags with rents typically landing around £70 to £90 per person per week.

#2 Sandyford

Another extremely popular student area is Sandyford, located between the city centre and Jesmond. Again, it’s a convenient 10-minute walk into the city centre and is close enough to the hustle and bustle whilst also proving a little more space and tranquility. The area is also home to the popular Sandyford bars As You Like It and The Holy Hobo. Rental properties for students in Sandyford are often slightly cheaper than those in the city centre and Jesmond at around £65 to £75 per person per week, helping those with a tighter student budget.

#3 Gosforth

If you are a more mature student who fancy a step back from the busy and vibrant student streets in their final year, Gosforth is a great option. Rents will be higher, however, the amenities and pleasant living environment make up for it. Gosforth High Street consist of boutique shops, local cafes and pubs. The area is also served by metro stations for convenient transport links and is equipped with plenty supermarkets from Asda, M&S and Sainsbury’s. With a 15 minute average journey time via public transport, it’s still not far at all from the city centre but gives you the option of a slower pace of life and a bit more space.

#4 Heaton

Another popular student area in Newcastle, complete with delicious eateries, pleasant pubs, great travel links and local amenities. Down every street of Heaton, you’ll find students living in terrace houses so it’s a great social environment if you enjoyed the community setting of student halls. Heaton is well-served with bus stops and the metro so you will never have to worry about not being able to find a suitable travel route to university. Usually properties in Heaton you can find at a cheaper price compared to Jesmond with great property standards.
