Fresher’s survival guide – 8 step guide

Fresher’s survival guide – 8 step guide
uni deadlines

Fresher’s week will be a week you probably won’t forget! It’s a full week of crazy activities and nights out with people who you have just met! But maybe with the people who will be your friends for the rest of your life. So we have created a fresher’s survival guide, so make sure you follow these and you will sure to be have a great time.

#1 Be yourself

Make sure you are yourself, trying to be someone won’t benefit you in the future. You will make friends with the wrong people. So don’t worry if you are a little outgoing and different, there will sure be people like you.

#2 Sign up to clubs and societies

Signing up to clubs and societies will enable you to find like-minded people. Who enjoy the same activities as you! Helping you find a common ground of conversation. It will also help you enjoy the activities you did at home or learn something completely new.

#3 Go to the fresher’s fair

Not only is the fresher’s fair a great way to see what the university has to offer, but you will also get lots of free stuff. Universities love to give out free stuff at these fairs! Just make sure you go to the domino’s stand for that free slice of pizza! Saying this, remember to sign up for anything and everything, even if it’s something that you’re not that interested in, it will allow you to meet new people and you may even like learning a new activity.

#4 Register with your local GP

Fresher’s flu is real! Make sure you register with your local GP, by doing this will give you the peace of mind. It may seem like a boring task when there is so much going on around you, but trust us, it’s one that you will thank us for in the future.

#5 Bring a door stop

Moving into halls/accommodation can be scary, and if you are shy it can be even more daunting. However, try and be confident, one way we would suggest is to take a door stop, this is a great way to become more sociable and a great way to talk to your new flatmates.

#6 Sort your budget

A pile of British pound coins on ten pound notes

For most getting your student loan is the most amount of money they have seen in their bank account. Which is why it may be tempting to splash it on those latest trainers you’ve had your eye on or that new phone that’s just come out. But remember that money has got to last you for a whole term. Make sure you are budgeting, you may feel as though you are the only one doing it, but you will be grateful when it comes to the last few weeks of term and you are not just living off pot noodles for every meal.

#7 Get taxi numbers

Being safe is the number one priority, so make sure you save a few taxi numbers in your phone. We would also recommend you write it down on a piece of paper, in case of those incidents where your phone dies or even worse you lose it!

Another great trick you could do is download the Uber app, this will mean that you will always have a taxi, even if you don’t have any money, you will always be able to get a taxi home safely.

#8 Don’t overdo it

And lastly, don’t overdo it! When you think of fresher’s week, you will probably think of the nights out! Yes, they may be crazy, but remember it’s not a race to see how much you can drink. Pace yourself, you will not be the most popular if you are the one who has drunk too much and needs to go home early! Plus, you may be missing out on something great! So if you need a glass of water half way through, do it, it’s better than having to leave early.

Have fun and enjoy your fresher’s week!
