Post graduate degree differs from an undergrad degree

Most undergraduate degrees are finished for the year now, and if that is you then congratulations! Now it is time to think about whether you want to do it all over again but with a post graduate degree! However, it’s not quite the same! So here are some key differences for you to consider before determining whether you want to go down that route.   Be prepared If you think you will be able to get away with not reading that chapter, then think again. In a master’s degree, reading the set chapter is so important. The lectures and seminars will be more discussion based, therefore, preparation is essential.   More work If you think the work load will be the same, then think again. A post graduate degree has a much bigger work load. With more essay writing and more behind the scene work. Including more engagement with primary research and critical analysis. You will find yourself having double the amount of projects to do in the same amount of time and they will most probably be longer!   Being independent If you thought an undergraduate degree was being independent. Then a master’s degree is a whole different level. The […]

Food and drinks survival guide for students in Newcastle

Choosing which university to go to can be hard, but we think Newcastle is definitely the place to be. There is a friendly rivalry between universities, as Newcastle is home to two; Newcastle University and Northumbria University. Therefore we have created a food and drinks survival guide for students.   So if you are coming to the wonderful place of Newcastle, we have created a food and drinks survival guide for students to help you along!   We all know that cooking is a worry for new students, so if you would like a rest from this new experience, then we have some great cheap places to turn to, helping you out now and then!   Eat4Less If you have ever been on Northumberland street at dinner time, then you will certainly have seen the queue for Eat4Less, crossing to the other side of Northumberland street. However, don’t worry, the queue goes down fast, so you won’t be waiting too long! This is a great cheap sandwich shop, and one which students love!   Wetherspoon’s If you want something a little more substantial, then a good pub meal is what you need. With Wetherspoon’s being so good and cheap, it’s […]

What area to live in after halls

If you are still looking for a house next year, this guide should hopefully help you pick which area is best for you to live in. As it can be overwhelming choosing your next house, that’s why we have split this guide up into areas to help you choose which area would be best suited for you.   City Centre Newcastle city centre is always lively, and there is always something to do! Therefore, this does reflect in the prices for this area, as they may be more expensive. However, you will have everything on your doorstep, with only a short walk to both universities.   Jesmond Jesmond is a lively student area, however it has a mixture of families and students. Wherever you live, you will at some point end up on Osborne road, the legendary road of bars, hotels and restaurants. A little further walk to the city and universities, however, Jesmond has everything you need from Tesco, Waitrose, a pharmacy to Starbucks and a fine Wine Shop for those ‘rahs’. If you are feeling a little lazy, Jesmond has 2 metro stations, so you can easily hop on and be in town within 5 minutes.   Sandyford […]

Checklist for moving out of your property.

Saying goodbye to your university accommodation can be sad, remembering all the memories that you have had in your house/flat. Whether it is your first, second or third year, moving out can be stressful. Therefore, we have created a checklist so you don’t leave anything behind, or forget to do important tasks.   #1 Check with your landlord Different properties require different actions when moving out of your accommodation, for example some may want the fridge/freezer switching off where some landlords don’t require this. Therefore, it is essential to check with your landlord what the right procedure is for your property.   #2 Check everywhere Make sure you don’t leave anything behind, checking under the bed, behind the wardrobe and under the kitchen sink. Make sure nothing is left behind. Start organising your stuff at least a week before you leave, then you can make a checklist of anything that you need to remember when it comes to moving day.   #3 Turn off lights and power points Once you have packed your car with your belongings, it’s time to do one last check. When doing this, make sure you go around each room switching off all lights and power […]
