How to survive Christmas on a student budget? (Updated 2018)

Christmas is always a stressful time of the year! And even more so on a student budget. With exams and hand-ins over December the stress can definitely build up – and the last thing you want is added worry about buying your nearest and dearest presents. There are so many festivities to get involved with, and you don’t want to miss out on any! We don’t want you to fall short on the activities either, which is why we have created this list to help you stay festive on a budget!   Budget Make sure you know your budget. Plan ahead and know your spending limit. Don’t go too OTT as your friends and family know that this time of your life is difficult and so they probably don’t expect you to go overboard. And remember, there are plenty gifts you can easily make yourself. If you’re doing a secret santa in your student flat then don’t be afraid to get creative and make something like a scrapbook from the many memories you have together.   Make a list Make a list of the people you want to buy presents for. Things to do before you leave for Christmas

Before you pack your bags ready to leave for christmas, there are a few things you need to remember! Make sure you go down this checklist to ensure you have a relaxing time.   Make sure your travel is sorted Don’t make the mistake of leaving your travel to the last minute. If you are heading home on the train, then make sure you have booked your ticket in advance. Generally, the earlier you book the ticket the cheaper it will become. As much as Christmas is about relaxing, as a student that doesn’t really happen. There are still parties to go to, home friends to catch up on and those dreaded deadlines to work towards! Yet, if you have done as […]

Christmas in Newcastle upon Tyne

It is the first week in December and things are really starting to look Christmassy now. So we thought we would create a list of things you can do at christmas in Newcastle.   #1 Fenwick’s window Everyone who knows Newcastle knows that the Fenwick’s window is a big deal and it is officially the start of Christmas in Newcastle! The window attracts thousands of people every year and is always a magical showcase. This year’s theme is Paddington bear, a great storyboard for all ages. A must see in Newcastle!   #2 Christmas markets The Christmas markets are also a great event in Newcastle upon Tyne. A great place to find some unusual and special Christmas gifts for family and friends. Or why not fill up on some different and exciting foods; for example, why not try a kangaroo burger or a wild boar burger? Yet nothing will finish the night off quite like a glass of mulled wine! Nothing says Christmas quite like this!   #3 Hadrian’s Tipi The Hadrian’s Tipi are back, and they are bigger and better than ever. Set in a new venue at the old Odeon site. New and exciting extras are here this year, […]
